Overview

Similar to your Internet options, your voice line options are limited in Vancouver. Telus and Shaw will charge you anywhere between $15-$35 per month.

What I'm personally using and why?

We do not have a home voice phone line, but we have a couple VOIP lines that are connected to VOIP-to-Phone adaptor. I use Obihai OB200 which supports Google Voice, and up to 4 SIP accounts. It's hard to get a new Google Voice number (free signup/no monthly payment) from Canada, though. Your best bet is to try to get a number while you're in the US, with a temporary US-based sim card to active Google Voice. Once activated, then you can use it anywhere in the world. The best feature from Google Voice is that I can get all the voice messages sent to my email, with text transcription & MP3, so I don't need to be back home to listen to the voice messages while away. The same feature exists in VOIP.ms albeit you need to pay a small amount ($0.005/min)
